
Under the rule of Daniel Ortega, the results of Nicaragua's presidential elections were anything but a surprise to many. But in an attempt to secure power, Ortega has done much more than simply exert influence over elections.
“People are frightened, repressed; they cannot express themselves freely if they are against the current government," said David Martinez*, an anonymous university student in Nicaragua.
